Hi all,
referring to Pat's question, whether anyone can purchase and do what they want with existing literature, - if there is no specific clause in the contract between the authors, owners and the publishing house, well, they like everyone else, want to make a sale. So they are entitled to sell it to the highest bidder. The clause is what can prevent such sales from taking place. Again, I am not a lawyer, but having gone through this myself, I learned the hard way!!!
royalties, of course are paid to the author or owner of the copyright.
