DHA is made by the body from omega 3's. In an evolutionary environment,
pretty much everything would be a good source of Omega-3 EFA's:
vegetation (and the meat of grazing animals who eat said vegetation) and
algae (and the flesh of fishies who eat said algae).
Well, in our modern world, we've really screwed it up. The meat is
eating mostly grain, which makes the flesh high in omega 6's......you
can still get it from fish, but you can also go to the source and get it
from algae oil if you're veg or vegan.
It's a great idea to search out non grain fed beef, chicken, eggs (if
you eat those things) - ie pasteured chickens and beef. Fish would
seem to be great (and it is) but it's hard to find fish that's not
contaminated wtih heavy metals and pesticides. Lots of ppl think
pharmaceutical grade fish oil is optimal.....flax oil is another good
option (though you have to take many times the flax oil that you would
the fish oil). Supplementing with straight DHA is great too....(from
algae)
