"rash on her breasts, stomach and upper thighs. ... The stretch marks on
her lower abdomen were a deep red, and were quite pronounced. Her breasts
were an even red, all over. NOT the nipple, areola, or I'd say a good 2
inches around the areola, but from that point outwards, both breasts were
red - not as dark as the stretch marks."
This sounds similar to my history. I'm wondering if two different things
could be going on here. I too had problems with Raynaud's. But this rash
was one of my first presenting signs of LATEX allergy. The contact with
the elastic in my underwear caused a horrible rash on my abdomen, thighs
and around my breasts (nursing bra with support - nowhere near the nipple) -
the sites of elastic/skin contact. My allergies were always worse during
pregnancy and postpartum. This could also be some type of irritant/contact
dermatitis; I'd suggest extra rinsing of her underwear, no softener, etc.
Good luck, Marita Nickison, RN, IBCLC
