Kathleen and Jan,
when you open that bookstore, I would highly recommend that the first book
you order for stock is Robbie Davis-Floyd, American Birth as a Rite of
Passage. She talks about the satsifaction women having with their birth
experience being due, in part, to their own cognitive matrix -- are they
deeply convinced by the technocratic model of birth or ware they deeply
swayed by the wholistic understanding of birth. On every page I can see the
parallels to breastfeeding.
WARNING: this is not an easy read. I cried painfully on several occasions
as something sparked intense memories of my own birth experiences.
