It is difficult to know the real reason why a mother does not breastfeed
unless we can walk in her shoes. I believe a big factor is the lack of
support - from friends, family and health professionals. Being highly
motivated to breastfeed does not help when your nipples are raw and you are
told the latch is fine, the pain will go away by six weeks! "Too little
milk" and pain are still the most common reasons I come across - based
probably on ignorance on the part of those the mother seeks help from.
