Ron,

Not entirely true.  In all likelihood the Spanish 1 Real piece found in Wisconsin was struck by the Spanish colonial government either in Mexico or in Peru.  Coins from Spain itself did appear in the Americas, but much less often than Spanish colonial coins.  Of course, the coins of the Mexican Republic werer struck by a different government, but only after Mexican independence.

I hope you dont mean to equate a Spanish silver coin with a Mexican peso? The
two were struck on entirely different continents by totally unrelated
governments.
