I'm not going to clutter up the list with more discussion of sex. You can
read what I've written about this in the archives, as we've "been there/done
that" before -- several times -- on Lactnet.
However, once again, I must chime in as an anthropologist and say that
non-human animals do have emotions, just as humans do. This is not a
distinction that can be made to separate humans from other animals, just as
culture, tool-making, and reliance on learned behavior, and even language
are not distinctions that clearly separate humans from non-human animals.
And it *is* clearly oxytocin that is responsible for that wonderful
affectionate, loving feeling you have when you breastfeed. Read the work of
Niles Newton. Prolactin levels return to their pre-pregnant/non-lactating
levels within six months of birth, and are not associated with continued
milk production, continued amenorrhea, or feelings of affiliation the way
oxytocin is.
