I have had 2 different situations with headaches - with 2 different
reasons/treatments/results:
1. We stress so much that moms don't HAVE to drink a lot of water, that at
times we may be under-valuing the importance of water, and I have found
that some moms are actually dehydrated. This of course started with an
unscientific sample of one (me), who found that when I had a headache, and
took some medicine, the headache would be gone long before the medicine
would be working...then I went to drinking a big glass of water WITHOUT the
medicine - and found that many times that was enough. So I DO ask moms
what/how much they have been drinking when they report headaches just in
case this may be a cause.
2. At times, though, it appears to be a hormonal effect that appears to
occur with some women. I have found some getting terrible headaches with
let-down. They seem to adjust to this, but with some, I have not found any
solution. They continue to have headaches every time they nurse. At times
enough to cause them to shorten their breastfeeding experience, others just
deal with it, one found that lying down and napping while breastfeeding was
her best coping mechanism.
