"Reducing oversupply through breastfeeding management methods may be a
better alternative."
Mary,
I did not go into detail about this client b/c I was confident about the modifications in bf that mom and I had discussed (using each breast every other feeding--extending longer if needed, expressing by hand for comfort if needed). I have actually never used or recommended sage, in part b/c I have never needed to, in part b/c Dr.Lowdog has not had good success with it, in part b/c I know no one personally who has used it successfully. I also like parsley for this purpose, anyway. In this case, however, mom was vascillating in her committment to bf'ing b/c of her terrible discomfort with her last baby, so I offered her a more aggressive option. We have been watching baby very carefully, and as she is an experienced mom, she is very comfortable w/ normal newborn behaviour and signs of well-being. The sage combined w/ parsley and bf management has been working and she is feeling both more comfortable and more optimistic and baby is till pooping a lot. Thank you for your thoughts!
