I believe we've discussed this recently. Check out lawrence for an
explanation of why one does not need ovaries to lactate. I remember
discussing this in detail when studying for my boards 14 years ago.
HRT is not needed to lactate. Lactation is driven by the pituitary.
However it works best when it occurs after a pregnancy and fertility is
hormonally driven.
It's a little early in the AM for me to get more detailed.
