Walter Meyer reported some very short CDs among Brilliant's Shostakovich
symphonies. An acquaintance who collects film scores has several which
come in under 30 minutes, and at full price. My shortest LP side was
just over 10 minutes - the second movement of Shostakovich's 7th, which
was spread over four sides; fortunately, the set was very inexpensive.

I usually note playing times in passing when I read reviews, and my
impression is that Philips, DG and the others that don't deserve to be
called "the majors" any more, are being increasingly parsimonious in terms
of times on new releases - there are exceptions, of course. Am I being
unfair?
