Everyone (including me) has thought of the possibility of severed nerves in
this case, but I'm a bit confused.
My understanding was that this 7-day pp mom was having trouble with
Lactogenesis II, immediately after birth. I thought that the delivery of the
placenta and subsequent drop in progesterone and estrogen is what initiates
Lactogenesis II, which then is maintained by nipple stimulation/breast
emptying. Back to the old endocrine/autocrine discussion, would the severing
of nerves prevent milk production on ~Day 2-3, or would its effects be felt
later?
