It's becoming  unusual for babies to be bathed routinely in UK
maternity hospitals...mainly for reasons of time and lack of staff, I
should say (staffing in some units is very bad). But I have also
heard it heralded as a positive move, to prevent infection. Hospital
baths are potentially a source of cross-infection.

There is no real need for babies to be bathed; as posters here say,
it can be disruptive to bf and mother and baby togetherness.
