Last year, as part of my master's work in child development, I found the
same thing. I actually contacted the company and one of the authors.
They are very aware of this problem. While we wait for them to make the
adjustment, their suggestion was to just skip the question and the
child's score will not suffer. They acknowledge that the question is
inappropriate but point out that when a question needs to be changed it
is a big technical deal.

I am not defending them by any means, just letting you know that they
are aware of the problem so if you contact them, you can use your
efforts to move this process along rather than introduce it.

Subject: outraged!

I just received this from the WIC LISTSERV that I belong to:

Denver Developmental Materials, Inc., P.O. Box 6919, Denver, Colorado,
80206-0919, has a developmental screening tool called DenverII
Developmental
Screening. One of its assessments is a task called "Feed the Baby".
For
this task, a doll and a toy bottle are placed on a table in front of a
child.
The child is told to "feed the baby". The tester is told to pass the
child
if the child places the bottle to the doll's mouth or obviously tries to
put
it to the mouth. If the child imitates breastfeeding, the tester is to
encourage the use of the bottle as breastfeeding alone is not considered
a
pass!!!

I am outraged!! Lets write!
