HI Trish,
The baby is at risk of developing thrush because it is a preemie, not because
the mother developed thrush on her nipples. The yeast is already in the
baby's GI tract. This baby could easily develop thrush on formula. Any
yeast in the mother's milk will not be a detremint to her baby and as you
said would give her baby more benefit than any harm.
IF the baby develops thrush then it should be treated but this does not
include removing the mother's milk from the baby's diet.
Diflucan is a common treatment to preemies who can get bad cases of thrush.
Hope this helps. Please don't let them take away the breast milk.
