I read the lactnet post on domperidone and found it quite helpful. I am an
IBCLC in Florida. OUr Florida lactation consultants assoc is having a "very
heated debate" regarding the efficacy of using domperidone. It has been
stated that it is ILLEGAL for physicains to write the Rx!! Unforntunately,
the people that make these statements are not directly involved, only
secondarily involved. Where did you find the information that states it is
legal for them to write the script? It is basically in a deadlock, because
if it is illegal for the docs to write the rx, then the pharmacist CANNOT
compound it!! Do you have any insight or references or referrals to help us
clear up this issue. It took alot for us to get pharmacies to agree to
compound and now we had to ask them if they know the script writing laws.
I am not sure how that can not know, but, that is another arena I would not
like to step into. It seems we are trying to help our moms and we are
getting into areas of unknown footing!

Finally, I don't know if this is a florida issue or not? Apparently, not a
problem anywhere else but down here. Is the laws for doctors script writing
privledges nationwide or state controlled? It just doesnt seem this should
be sooo difficult!

Thank you,
Wendy Thomson, RN,BSN,BSBA,IBCLC
