Years ago I read of research in which mothers and babies
were put to sleep together (what a novel idea) and their breathing
etc. were measured.
When babies stopped breathing (as all babies do in their sleep
at one time or another) the mothers also stopped breathing.
However, because mothers know how to breath, they started
breathing again and that stimulated the baby to begin
breathing again as well.
Does anyone have a reference for this research?
Thanks,
Naomi Bar-Yam
