Jean, I think you might have misunderstood my post.

The 1984 study (and I agree - there may not have been enough good
knowledge about positioning and *attachment* then) showed bedside
teaching *improves* bf maintenance.

The 2001 study that Magda highlighted indicated that bedside teaching
about bf tended to *reduce* maintenance and satisfaction.

I agree that in both studies, it would be useful to know precisely
what was taught.

But as Magda said, if teaching about bf and positioning actually
reduces the liklihood of bf success.....what do we do about it?????

I think this is very important. Are there other studies that show
teaching helps? No, I'm not talking about encounters with supporters,
where we have some good evidence that it does....actual teaching.
