Breastmilk is anti-cavity (anti-cariogenic) so something else is going
on rather than the breastfeeding.  What carbohydrates the child consumes
in addition to the breastmilk is of interest, as simple sugars may cause
the cavity causing organism strep mutans to flourish.  If the mother has
a tendency to many cavities, strep mutans can be transferred from the
mother to the child via so-called cleansing of the pacifier in the
mothers own mouth and from sharing the baby food spoon.



Lack of enough enamel being put done in tooth buds can be due to excess
fluoride exposure also.

Where there is exposure from industrial fluoride released in the air,
even cows can have this lack of tooth enamel formation.  It can also be
from internal fluoride toxicity, such as fluoride supplementation

and environmental exposure.  Fluoride displaces calcium in bones and
teeth and can actually be the cause of what appears to be BBTD.  It is
really primary tooth fluorosis.



The mother may have celiac disease and gluten grains may be injuring her
own gut villi.  She will

not absorb adequate calcium and may be of risk of osteoporosis herself.
So when her childs tooth

buds are being formed, not enough enamel can be laid down due to lack in
her body.
