I had a preemie born at 32 weeks and pumped for the four weeks she was in the
hospital. I rented a hospital grade Medela "Classic" pump and used my Avent
Isis pump while at the hospital (b/c the pump room was almost always in use)
, while out and about, and during the middle of the night so I didn't have to
leave my bed or disturb my family with the noisy rented pump. I pumped every
2-3 hours during the day and at least once in the middle of the night.

I at first diligently used the rented pump because I thought it would be more
effective, but soon realized that the Isis was much more convenient and just
as quick and effective. I could pump equal amounts of milk with the Isis in
about the same amount of time as the double electric pump. The nurses in the
NICU were quite impressed with it b/c I could sit right by my daughters
isolette and pump discreetly and quickly. They even began to recommend it to
other moms.

I almost wish I hadn't wasted the money on the electric pump, because I ended
up hardly using it!! The only problem I had with my supply was that I had
way too much milk and had to continue pumping for awhile after she came home
to gradually reduce it!
