To clarify my initial question, a pediatrician asked our LC specifically
if there were any known health risks to the baby of an Atkin's dieting
nursing mother. I was not informed of the age of the mother, nor baby,
only that the baby was exclusively BF and she did intend on continuing
to BF while dieting. The recommendation of our LC was that the diet may
effect supply, therefore should not be attempted. The impression I got
from the Pedi was that as a doctor, scientist and woman, she was very
much against radical dieting of any nature and was hoping to find some
conclusive evidence for or against BF while Atkins dieting. Per the
Pedi- mom says that "everyone" says she shouldn't do this diet, but no
one can tell her why.
Thank you Margaret, for the LLLI reference on dieting. -Amy
