Dear Friends:
I had two prescriptions filled at a Rite-Aide pharmacy yesterday. On one
vial there was a warning sticker saying "DO NOT USE WHILE YOU ARE
BREASTFEEDING". The medication is compatible with bf, according to the AAP
and to Dr. Thomas Hale. I called the pharmacy back and spoke to the
pharmacist. He had used the medication insert. He didn't know anything about
the AAP's drug list, or Dr. Thomas Hale. I don't know that he will change his
practice, although I gave him the AAP website.
I wrote to RiteAide this morning, describing my experience and offering
the resources. A national pharmacy chain, indeed any pharmacy, should have
accurate information about breastfeeding and medications. Can you imagine how
much falsehood is being spread on vials of medication?
I will keep you all posted.
Warmly,
