Dear Lacnetters,
I have a question about breastcancer and lactation and I'm hoping someone
can point me in the the right direction or provide an answer? In my bf
course at the moment I have a 26 year old women who's sister died of
breastcancer last year (aged28, she was diagnosed during her first
pregnancy). The woman in my course is now undergoing monthly checks in an
academic hospital and genetic research is also underway to establish if
their is a hereditary component. I have seen several studies relating to
bfeeding protecting against premenop. cancer but was wondering whether this
is also the case for the types of breastcancer that clearly run in families
(I understand that there are several oncogenes involved)?
We talked about breastfeeding being one way of reducing risk form
breastcancer, but I also had to tell her I didn't know if that would also
apply to her case (I'm hoping and believe it will). I also do not believe I
am qualified to give her an answer to this question and suggested she talked
to her physician about it. However, I am interested to know if anyone out
there does have an answer?
Yours
