Kathleen,
I recommend that they not be mixed mostly because if the baby does not finish
the supplement, the breast milk can be stored and used later. Whereas the
formula will need to be pitched. I also want to know that the baby is
getting all of the breast milk then the parents can follow with formula and
if the baby does not finish the supplement I would rather it be the formula
and not a mix and not know how much of the breast milk the baby received.
Good question regarding the gut. I'd like to hear from others on how long
between ingesting breast milk and then other supplements that the gut needs
to coat and protect the lining of the gut.
