Dear Lactnet,
Debbie asked about the benefits of cranio-sacral therapy. My daughter
was born with pronounced torticollis. Her head was tipped to her shoulder.
We were initially referred to a pediatric orthopedist who warned us to do
daily stretching etc or the sternocleidomastoid muscle may require
"clipping"!
Her father is a chiropractor and he was freaked! We hooked up with a
faculty member at the Upledger Institute in Florida and I flew her there. We
continued to follow him around the East Coast and he used baby KJ as a "demo"
in his lectures. She was in mid-line alignment by 6-7 months!
He specifically worked on her pterygoids by pressure to her palate (which
was high) and her occiput (which was asymmetrical).
The orthopedist was pleasantly surprised and astounded by her outcome. A
chiropractor trained in CST would be a great resource, Debbie.
BTW, it was additionally helpful to stretch the muscle by dropping her
body when she nursed on the left side.........hours a day of stretching!
