Ann Marie,
I see a lot of moms using the *zzo method, although I think that since
his publisher refuses to publish his books, the movement is slowing down in
my area, the Bible belt of the South. The mom usually has a book loaned to
her by a "friend" up the street. As soon as the word "schedule" is used, I
begin my talk on how most babies don't fit into the same mold and how the
*zzo method is not compatible with breastfeeding. I usually recommend the
Womanly Art of Breastfeeding and Dr. Sears' Nighttime Parenting, as most *zzo
parents are worried about sleep issues. If they are worried about fussiness,
I recommend Sears' Fussy Baby. I saw a couple a few weeks ago who had an
article taken from the internet entitled The AAP and Babywise that made it
look like the AAP was endorsing Babywise. They weren't going to let me wake
their sleeping baby while I was at their home for a home visit. Luckily, the
smart baby woke up and I was able to help with breastfeeding. I saw them
about 2 weeks later at a restaurant and laughed when the waitress tried to
wake up their sleeping baby. I was happy to see that they had their baby
with them! *zzo advises them to go out without baby.
Warmly,
Alice Ernest IBCLC
