Hi Janet!
I know of the assessment tools below.
- BREASTfeed Observation (developed by WHO/UNICEF)
- LATCH Method (Jenson D, Wallace S, Kelsay P, 1994. LATCH: A
breastfeeding charting system and documentation tool. JOGNN, 23(1):29)
- MBA Method (Mulford C, 1992. The mother-baby assessment (MBA): An "Apgar
score" for breastfeeding. J Hum Lact, 8: 79-82)
- IBFAT Method (Matthews MK, 1988. Developing an instrument to assess
infant breastfeeding behavior in the early neonatal period. Midwifery.
4(4):154-165. also in Biancuzzo M, 1994. Breastfeeding the Healthy Newborn:
A Nursing Perspective.)
- SAIB (Published by Shrago L, Bocar D 1990. The infant's contribution to
breastfeeding. J Obstetr Gynecol Neonatal Nurs, 19(3): 209-215.)
Hope this helps. There's also lots of info on them in the Lactnet archives.
