I once got myself into quite a controversy when I made the comment that
breastfeeding should be promoted as a public health issue. I got all
sorts of "it isn't a public health issue it is an individual choice"
Well excuse me but ALL public health concerns are a matter of
individual choice.
To immunize or not
To smoke or not
To wear a seat belt or not
To use a child restraint or not
To practice safe sex or not
and on and on
When public money has to go toward treatment of preventable things it is
a public health issue.
