My clinical impressions is that about 1/3 of the baby boys don't seem to
have any different behavior after a circ, 1/3 zonk out (shut down) for about
8-12 hours (which causes all sorts of consternation among nursery nurses :-)
and 1/3 fuss and nurse alot for 8-12 hours for comfort.
Insurance pays in some states, not in others, plus the OB does the circ
(peds don't want to :-) and the OB is around at the hospital, he doesn't see
baby boys after that. A bris is done on the 8 th day because Jewish people
learned many, many years ago that baby's natural store of vitamin K is
developed by the 8 th day. Today babies have had vitamin K shots so clotting
isn't usually a problem.
Sincerely, Pat in SNJ, who will now shut up on the subject :-)
