Much more research needs to be done on many aspects of vitamin D
supplementation, for example, the impact of vitamin D supplementation
(including the carriers, artificial colors and flavors) on the infant gut
at various ages, the impact of supplementation on breastfeeding beliefs and
behaviors, how supplementation affects the vitamin D status of at-risk and
non-at-risk populations, epidemiological studies on the prevalence of
vitamin D deficiency and rickets (not just case studies or reports of the
incidence at a particular hospital), etc., etc., etc. There are many
questions that do not appear to have been asked--much less researched, much
less answered--in this area.
