Thanks all lactnetters who responded publicly and privately to my dilemma.
As of this writing I have agreed to speak at this conference. Thanks
everyone who shared their disclaimers, contract clauses, and general way of
handling things. In the future I will certainly know to ask about such
sponsorship in advance.
The conf. is a pharmacology conference geared to neonatal nurse
practitioners and sponsored by the hospital. There are 6 speakers, 3 of whom
are MDs. The NNPs picked the topics and invited the speakers and then asked
Ross to do the printing and they would be listed as co-sponsor. The lunch is
on your own. I am told that no one is being paid at all, no honorariums. My
talk will be on medications and bf. The conf. chair has agreed to put a
disclaimer in the brochure. My understanding is that this does not violate
the WHO Code nor the IBLCE code of ethics. I understand that this may
violate one's personal ethics to be assoc. in any way when a formula co is
involved. I appreciate that perspective and will have to consider if that
should be where I will stand in future events.
