Please avoid the use of vet. meds in humans. Remember: it is unethical and
illegal for LCs (or LLLLs or any non-licensed person) to dispense meds to
mothers. We can provide information, not prescribe drugs. Further:
"An underappreciated sensitizer [for dermatitis] is neomycin, a component of
the most commonkly sold topical antibiotic products (e.g. Mycitracin,
Neosporin). These products are only safe for preventing infections in minor
injuries. If the patient develops an allergic reaction when using them as
directed, they must be immediately discontinued. Since the apprearance of
an allergy to neomycin can cause cross-sensitivities with other
aminoglycosides, such as gentamicin, the patient should be urged to choose a
topical antibiotic free of neomycin." S Pray, Consult Your Pharmacist:
Dermatitis Causes are Diverse, US Pharmacist 2000; 25(8):14-21.
Neomycin is not an ingredient in APNO.
