Sara, here are some suggestions to help bring down your client's milk supply
and therefore hopefully reduce her chances of developing a mastitis.
I would be very aggressive with cabbage leaves, applying every 1-3 hours
during the day while she is experiencing the engorgement. I would use very
little or no heat on her breast, only for a minute just prior to a nursing.
Have her eat fresh sage and drink peppermint tea. I believe it was Dr. Jayne
who recommended birth control pills to reduce over supply. She suggested to
use them for only a week with the clinical application to reduce the supply
not for birth control then discontinue them so the supply would level off.
