I suspect some folks simply cannot accept the beauty and simplicity of
breastfeeding.

No need to prepare breasts, Mother Nature takes care of that.

(no need to torture women, either! must be pretty chilly in the Netherlands
this time of year.)

Subject: rinsing breasts in cold water after shower

Dear Lacnetters,

I have, what proabaly seems, a very daft question. I gave the first evening
of another bf course yesterday. As usual I got the big bombardment of usual
questions. But a new one on me was about preparing your breasts for
lactation during the last two months of pregnancy. Basically, a few of the
mothers to be had read in a baby magazine that it is best to always run cold
water over your breast after you've been in a hot bath or under the shower.
I asked them why, but of course they were wanting that answer from me. I
can't think of why you would do this, it sounds pretty stupid to me. I'm
also a pregnant as they are and told them I had no plans to be showering in
cold water.  I've suggested they try it and see what its like, then they'll
realise what a ridiculous idea it is.

Has anyone heard of this, or have a reason why it is useful? If it does have
a function I'd love to hear it.

(realing from hearing yet again that a baby must be supplemented, because a
mothers milk is not good enough. You'd think that the idea of checking the
latch/position, frequency of feeds, oversupply/undersupply problems was
totally unheard of!)
