I'm a bit puzzled as to HOW breastmilk can UNconjugate bilirubin. Can
someone help me out with this process? I can understand how a physician can
argue for formula because the bili will come down faster -- simply because
breastfed babies have a higher normal bilirubin. Is this because of this
"unconjugation" factor?
Along this same line, I've heard physicians say that the reason the formula
brings the bili down faster is because of the iron in the formula, and that
increased iron decreases bilirubin. Nancy? Anyone?
