Perri Klass is a neonatologist/pediatrician who has written a number of
books about her experiences in medical school and as a pediatrician. I have
read several of them, and may be remembering incorrectly, but I believe it
is in the book "Other Women's Children" where she talks about her
experiences in the NICU. I remember being both shocked and totally appalled
at her attitude -- that those babies were HERS, to do with as she pleased,
including decisions about which ones should survive and which ones should be
'allowed to die' through withholding of medical treatment. She wrote as
though she actively resented the parents -- who the *hell* were THEY to
interfere??!! So -- this might be a start. It's not research, but it's a
window into the mind of a pediatrician, and I suspect she is not unique.
