Actually, I have a wonderful colleague (Geneva Carnahan IBCLC) who
supplied the name when she saw me doing it. She and I both wonder if we
picked this all up earlier at a conference in the 60's.
Whatever - doesn't really matter except as a conversation piece. 'Tis a
valuable tool for one's kit.
I agree that more LC's are likely to be needed, everywhere! (The original
prediction by LLL founders "that one day theywould work themselves out of
a job" in retrospect has a touch of humor.)
I was around to watch the birth of the Respiratory Therapy profession as
it exceeded the time/knowledge of staff nurses and physicians. The
evolution of the LC profession seems to be following a somewhat similar
course.
