You're right, conception is unlikely at 6-8 weeks postpartum, fully
breastfeeding, but usually if a woman attends a clinic (or whatever) with
concerns about conception she will be offered emergency contraception.
(Because we can't say there is NO risk of pregnancy).
However, because E.C. is such a short course (usually 2 Nordiol pills,
followed by 2 pills 12 hours later) it shouldn't have an effect on
lactation. If she does notice a drop in supply, it should be corrected by
feeding more. Also, the effect on the baby should not be a problem.
If she was given progesterone-only EC this would have even lower risk of
side-effects on herself (ie less nausea) and the baby.
