A mother I am helping is being tested for infectious mononucleosis. Her
doctor has recommended that she wean her toddlerimmediately. My resources
say that nursing is acceptable when mononucleosis is caused by EBV but not
when it is caused by CMV. My understanding is that EBV usually causes mono
and CMV rarely does. The baby has already been exposed to the mother during
the illness, which may not even be mono (test results aren't back yet). Does
anyone know of any references for why this mom does not have to wean?
Thanks,
Beth Lichy
