Marci asked about transmission of E.coli infection through breastfeeding.
The baby NEEDS to be getting the mother's milk, in order to keep up the
baby's defense against E.coli.
Lactoferricin (a component of breastmilk) is protective against infection by
E.coli. If the baby is living in the same household as the mother and the
ill child, it will have been exposed to the E.coli already. Breastmilk,
preferably fresh (not even frozen, if possible) is just what the baby needs.
