Something not taken into amount when new parents are doing dirty diaper
counts is the *amount* of poop that 'counts' as a full elimination. There
is a big difference between a scant teaspoon full of poop and a dirty diaper
that 'explodes' and leaks up to the shoulderblades. I'm training myself to
ask about the diaper explosions in babies at risk for poor weight gain. If I
hear about the dirty diapers requiring a complete change of clothes and
sometimes a bath, I'm much more reassured than by a parent who simply
assures me of the "number" of poops.
