I have been reading this thread with interest. I hope I'm not
repeating a comment in the digests I haven't read yet. My first
impression was that it wasn't appropriate for the mother to offer.
Then after reading the posts about how the mom may have sensed
something in the child's behavior that told her the child needed to
nurse, I felt differently. I think the key is whether she is
offering, not telling the child he must nurse. "Would you like to
nurse?" would indicate that she is willing if the child feels the
need. If she had said something like "Johnny, come here and nurse."
it would raise questions even among supporters of child led weaning.
