I wanted to pass some hospital kudos along. Recently a friend's cousin
delivered 5-6 weeks early at Charleston Hospital in Fall River, Mass. My
friend and I were really worried about what might happen and were trying
desperately to line up support and information for this new mother. Turns
out that there were LCs "assigned" to her who followed her around and were
always there to help, getting her to break the latch and try again when it
hurt. They also made sure that once the mother was discharged, and the baby
was not, that the mother had a place to stay so that she could stay with her
baby. The result was a mother who had been planning to "try and breastfeed"
who left the hospital confident and happily breastfeeding and is already
telling her friends who are pregnant etc. how great breastfeeding is.

What a wonderful hospital and what great LCs. If you are out there kudos to
you!

I know that so many of you are unable (too many babies and mothers or not
enough beds) to do any of this despite your desires and efforts. It is
really too bad that all hospitals cannot be like this.
