Dear Friends:
The suffragettes wanted anesthesia in childbirth at the turn of the
century, to be free of the pain of birth. And the Queen of England used
chloroform for her last baby. Add to that the power given to the young AMA by
the rich industrialists. Also add the political clout to said young AMA, who
went out and deliberately discredited every other branch of healing practice
and that can help explain some of what we have today.
There was no advocate for babies in those days. And who is their
advocate now? I fear that there will have to be an epidemic of damaged babies
that is recognized by the mainstream public before we have change.
Breastfeeding advocates have to have active, awake babies and committed moms
to work with. When birth makes the babies unable to participate, and the
mothers are separated in the first stages of detachment parenting, we have an
uphill battle.
Trying to keep this topic about breastfeeding! :-)
