We are a nonprofit organization because: we provide a free service to the
community at large, and we use a sliding scale for payment for any services
that are paid for. I applied for nonprofit status so that we are classified
as a charitable organization and can fundraise, people can make
tax-deductible contributions to use, etc.. It seemed to make the most sense
for our organization. We do, however, only figure in salaries and overhead,
and right now, there are not even salaries! All of our help is volunteer,
including myself and my administrative director. As we raise more funding,
we hope to salary several positions, including a full-time IBCLC.
Thanks for your input! Do you know where I might get the book "Helping
Mothers To Breastfeed?" This does sound wonderful for us.
