There are many different reasons why individuals or cultures might opt for
large family size, including: the more hands at work, the more food and
resources for everyone, the status from having many children, and just the
joy that children bring.

Whenever people start talking about "those people" or even "those people
over there" who have so many kids, I gently remind them that one (1) person
in the US uses, on average, the same amount of the world's resources as
thirty (30) people living in a Third World country.

In *some* cultures where women have many children, women are extremely
valued, especially for their ability to MAKE OTHER PEOPLE -- a talent that
no man ever has had or ever will have.
