Andrea Tran asked whether any of us know if a male-to-female transsexual can
lactate, and if so, whether hormonal therapy is needed or if simply pumping
is enough.

To the first question I must say I don't know, but if it is possible, I
assume it would be as for any woman with breasts who had not been pregnant.
Depending on how she is maintaining her secondary sex characteristics, an
adjustment in hormone doses might be in order.

If, in addition, the person has prosthetic breast implants, that would need
to be taken into consideration, in terms of what kind of results to expect.

And, while I guess I understand the question mark in parentheses after the
word 'she', I think I might feel offended, or at least judged, if I were the
person in question and I saw that. She almost certainly defines herself as
a woman, and probably has more than enough on her plate already.

Just my few drops into the bucket,
Rachel Myr
