Dear Lactnetters,
In your experience, how common is mastitis for moms of babies 1 1/2-2 yr. who
breastfeed very infrequently, 2-4 times/day? A mom asked me and since
blocked ducts weren't a problem, nursing was infrequent, and since she was
pumping once a day to leave milk with the sitter while she's working (and
only getting 3/4 oz), all I could think of is the usual of stress, pump not
being clean, or toddler biting and bacteria introduced that way thru cuts in
nipple. Any other ideas but especially, in general, I'n just curious as to
how common mastitis is with toddler nursing.
Thanks! Barbara Latterner, BSN, RN, IBCLC
