First, let me say don't panic ....please. That being said, there seemed to
be an attached file sent (not intentionally by the sender, I am sure)...via
a worm that the sender had contracted. My system warned me, and I
immediately ran a virus update and check... That is the first time I saw
anything come through Lactnet like that in 7 years, and so I asked our
systems operator to changes things so that now attachments are not allowed
on Lactnet. We had always said they were not allowed, but this one was
inadvertent, via a virus...now attachments will not come through Lactnet
whatsoever.
We hear that Listserv is working on a new version of listserv software that
will have more features regarding viruses...and we look forward to that
becoming a reality. Realizing that Listserv donates their services to host
Lactnet, we are very appreciative of their help and support.
As always it is your responsibility to maintain your system's virus
protection. I recommend frequent updating of virus definitions, and daily
checks.
