I have a query for other private practice consultants. I currently work out
of a home office, and see more clients here than I go out to (sheer
economics- my community cannot afford to pay my time for travel). I have
carried professional liability insurance, plus I had a rider on my home
policy to cover home office traffic. After having this for several years,
my homeowner's insurance carrier has notified me that they will no longer
cover my home business. In talking to my insurance agent, it is because
'lactation consultant' is not listed under the approved businesses. They
wanted me to check with my professional liability carrier, who does not do
general liability for home office situations. (AAA won't even extend
homeowner's insurance to my family *because* I have a home-based business)
Has this hit anyone else? It looks like I may lose my coverage at home, and
my husband understandably does not want to put our family at risk for my
business. Anyone have an insurance company that covers them at home?
